We contrast the secular and the sacred, interspersing highly charged texts from The Song of Songs with reflections on the mysteries of the afterlife. Kenneth Leighton’s Missa Brevis, written for the choir of Liverpool Cathedral in 1967, has become one of the most popular 20th century settings of the communion service. The programme will also include the première performance of a new commission for the Micklegate Singers by David McGregor, 'They that love beyond the world'.
